Favorite Albums of 2012

2012 was a good year for music. My favorites are somewhat focused and moody which is probably not a coincidence but I’ve also been listening to a variety of older stuff, so don’t read too much into that. Though, I do generally like moody music.

Of the bunch, the highlights are probably Lorn’s Ask the Dust, which got plenty of playtime since release, and The Invisible’s Rispah, a very different but equally absorbed effort. Some of the other works are perhaps easier to classify, others are almost poppy, with the exception of Dadub and Dino Sabatini releases which continue to feed my obsession with Italian techno.

Here they are, in no particular order:

The Invisible – Rispah
Lorn – Ask the Dust
Yeasayer – Fragrant World
Clark – Iradelphic
Py – Tripping on Wisdom
John Talabot – Fin
Reso – Tangram
Grizzly Bear – Shields
Scuba – Personality
Two Fingers – Stunt Rhythms
The XX – Coexist
Yppah – Eighty One
Dadub – Way to Moksha
Dino Sabatini – Shaman’s Paths

Here’s a playlist with the collection in no particular order (you may want to shuffle it) but I did bump up some of the ones I’d put in a short list.

Enjoy!
